Going out on family vacations can be very stressful, especially if you have a pet dog. You have to worry about where to leave your beloved pet and if its going to be fine there. Luckily, there are many pet hotels where you can leave your dog and make sure that it is well taken care of. Pet hotels basically let you check your pet in, watch over it, and keep it happy while you are enjoying your trip.
When leaving your pet at a pet hotel, you have to make sure that they have the facilities and services that will assure your pets safety and well-being. Here are a few things to check on before leaving them at the pet hotel.
Always check what type of food they will be giving to your dog. Make sure that they are serving high quality dog food or you can also ask if they offer homemade all meat meals, especially if your pet is on an all meat diet. More often than not, dogs get digestion problems especially if they are given a different brand dog food. You can also inform them that you want them to give your pet a specific dog food brand during feeding time. Always inform the dog hotel if your pet is on a special diet and give them specific instruction about what to feed your dog.
Most of the time, pet hotels place their guests in cages or holding pens where they can sleep and rest. Their sleeping area needs to have a mat or a dog bed so that they are comfortable. If your dog has problems in moving around, such as in cases with dogs that have degenerative myelopathy, request for a bigger cage so that the dog will not have a hard time going in and out.
Make sure that the pet hotel has a big yard or backyard where they can let your pet play, run around and meet other animals. You can also ask them for scheduled play and exercise time. Inform them about your dogs temperament so that they will know if your dog can just be left to socialize with other animals or if it needs more supervision.
Special Medical Attention and other Services
Most pet hotels offer other services such as pet parlors, veterinary clinics and special medical attention for dogs that have problems like degenerative myelopathy or arthritis. It would best to make sure that the hotel has an on-call veterinarian in case of emergencies.
